Canucks have candidate in line to replace Jim Benning if he gets fired!
Isn’t this what is needed in Vancouver?!
HockeyFeed
It’s been eight years, and nothing has changed in Vancouver. Canucks general manager Jim Benning started his tenure in 2014-15, and fans cannot handle more bad news and trades, overpaid players and losses.
One loss that would be more than welcome: the firing of Benning. And after the Montreal Canadiens cleaned up their management team, firing GM Marc Bergevin, assistant GM Trevor Timmins and Paul Wilson, senior vice president of public affairs and communications - on top of losing Scott Mellanby, who resigned from his role as the assistant general manager of the Habs, the Canucks might be tempted to make changes in Vancouver.
According to insider Rick Dhaliwal, the Canucks might already have a candidate in line to take over Benning’s spot in Vancouver, as he believes we need to keep an eye on Mellanby, whose name has come up a lot in the last few days.
He doubts that Bergevin is seeking to take over the position in another huge Canadian market, and thinks Mellanby, who was once hired in Vancouver under Mike Gillis, could return to take the reigns.
This could be what makes Benning’s firing happen if Mellanby is willing to take over and get things back on track for the Canucks.
