Canucks hire high potential, gold winning defensive defenseman.

The season has long been over in Vancouver, but it doesn't mean the upper management is wasting its time on the golf greens. The team has shown some flashes of high potential last season, but there are still areas left to be improved. Defense has been lukewarm through the year and a bit of defensive flair was lacking.

This is precisely why Jim Benning and his crew announced the hire of Philip Holm on an entry-level contract.

Holm is a Swedish defenseman who played for the Vaxjo HC thorugh last season. He earned a modest 21 points in 52 games played but maintained a +21 differential through the year. The 6'1'', 190lbs left-handed d-man is only 25 years old and is reportedly a good shutdown defenseman who's good on the PK. He could technically be a good fit on the third line to replace Nikita Tryamkin, who just left for the KHL in controversy.

Good luck in Vancouver Philip!
