Canucks lose Lane Pederson for nothing after putting him on their top line!

Unreal.

The Vancouver Canucks may have just managed another blunder.

According to a report from National Hockey League insider Elliotte Friedman, the Columbus Blue Jackets have claimed forward Lane Pederson off of waivers today meaning that the Canucks will now lose the forward for absolutely nothing.

Pederson was acquired by the Canucks earlier in the season as part of the trade that brought Ethan Bear to Vancouver, a trade that also included Pederson in exchange for a fifth round pick from the Carolina Hurricanes.

After being picked up by the Canucks, Pederson went on to wow observers with his performance in the American Hockey League recording 17 goals and 7 assists for a total of 24 points over just 18 games played. This would eventually lead to a call up and even resulted in newly appointed head coach Rick Tocchet giving him some time with the Canucks' top line at practice, on the very same day that management decided to waive him no less.

Whatever plans Tocchet may have had for the 25 year old forward though will be irrelevant now, given that he will be playing under head coach Brad Larsen of the Blue Jackets.

Given the way this played out, with Pederson being waived on the same day it appeared as though his head coach was going to give him a big opportunity, it's hard not to see this as anything other than more signs of the dysfunction currently going on behind the scenes in Vancouver.
