The experiment appears to be over.

The Vancouver Canucks appear to be making a significant change in goal today, with an announcement that comes directly from Canucks general manager Patrik Allvin.

According to the official announcement, the Canucks have made the move to place 27 year old Spencer Martin on waivers Monday, this after Martin has made 29 appearances for the Canucks over the course of this regular season.

It would be fair to suggest that Martin has had his share of struggles with a 3.99 goals against average and a .871 save percentage over those 29 regular season games, but it's also worth noting that he has been part of a rather dysfunctional team this season.

This would appear to also be an endorsement of backup goaltender Colin Delia who himself has made 13 appearances for the Canucks over the course of the regular season. Delia has also had his struggles with a 3.27 goals against average and a .887 save percentage, but this move appears to be a clear indication that the Canucks have more confidence in Delia moving forward.

Martin doesn't exactly have a wealth of experience at the NHL level with the bulk of that experience, 29 of his 38 career games, coming this season with the Canucks. That being said it wouldn't be a shock to see him claimed by a rival team in the NHL given that there is often a need for backup goaltenders.

Just recently the Ottawa Senators announced that goaltender Anton Forsberg will be out of action for several months, so perhaps they might take a look in Martin's direction today.
