The owners of the Vancouver Canucks have been slapped with a major lawsuit, one with a trust reportedly worth hundreds of millions of dollars at the center of it.

According to a report from the CBC, a lawsuit filed by Matteo Aquilini has alleged that Luigi Aquilini, along with Francesco Aquilini and Roberto Aquilini "engaged in a concerted and covert scheme" to exclude Matteo and members of his immediate family from a family trust.

That trust, the Luigi and Elisa Aquilini Legacy Trust, was valued at a whopping $320 million in 2015.

Matteo Aquilini is the nephew of Francesco Aquilini and Roberto Aquilini and is the son of former Canucks owner Paolo Aquilini, although there has been no indication that the team itself is involved in this litigation.

This is a civil suit filed by Matteo and therefore there will be no criminal charges of any kind stemming from this litigation, but obviously there is a tremendous amount of money at play here.

Matteo claims that his part of the family has been cut out by Luigi, Francesco and Roberto in retaliation for historic allegations of sexual assault against a family member that has not been named.

Matteo is seeking a number of remedies in this litigation, including having Luigi, Roberto and Francesco removed from control of the trust.

No word yet on how this will all play out, but stayed tuned for more updates on this surprising and developing story.
