Canucks place two defencemen on waivers today
Is this the end of their NHL journeys?
This just in, the Vancouver Canucks have placed defensemen Guillaume Brisebois and Jett Woo on waivers, presumably for assignment to the AHL's Abbortsford Canucks.
Both Brisebois and Woo were in tough to earn a spot on the Canucks' opening night roster and today's news seems to indicate that they won't be with the team on opening night. With a full, healthy lineup the Canucks boast Quinn Hughes and Filip Hronek on the top pairing, then big boys Carson Soucy and Tyler Myers on the second pairing, Derek Forbort and Vincent Desharnais (another big boy) nail down the third pairing. Veterans Mark Friedman and Noah Juulsen are also still available to the team.
As for Brisebois and Woo, it'll be interesting to see if there's any interest in the pair on the waiver wire.
The 24 year old Woo probably has the most potential of the two. He's been a solid, if not spectacular AHL defenseman who has simply been lapped in the team's depth chart each training camp. Frankly, he hasn't shown much development from his days in the WHL with the Moose Jaw Warriors and Calgary Hitmen.
Brisebois is a 27 year old veteran with 27 career NHL games (all for the Canucks) on his resume. He's never been much of an impact player, even at the AHL level.
