The Vancouver Canucks are working the trade market again. On Friday, team general manager Patrik Allvin announced that the Canucks have acquired defenseman Nick Cicek and a sixth-round pick in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft from the San Jose Sharks in exchange for forward Jack Studnicka.
Cicek is a 23-year-old blue liner who took part in 18 games with the San Jose Barracuda (AHL) this season. He’s put up a goal and three points and a total of 21 penalty minutes. In 108 career AHL games, all spent with the Barracuda, Cicek has accumulated 31 points (7-24-31) and 121 penalty minutes.
He has also played in 16 NHL games for the Sharks, collecting four assists and 15 penalty minutes.
Cicek originally signed an entry-level contract with the San Jose Sharks as an undrafted free agent.
Studnicka will get a chance to benefit from a change of scenery in San Jose, while Vancouver sheds a 1-way salary and gets a draft pick in the process.
Folks in Vancouver appear to be loving this trade:
More to come on this developing story.
