The Vancouver Canucks have traded goaltender Arturs Silovs on Sunday.
In an official announcement, the Pittsburgh Penguins have confirmed that they have acquired Silovs from the Canucks in exchange for forward Chase Stillman as well as a fourth round pick in the 2027 National Hockey League Entry Draft.
Stillman, selected in the first round (29th overall) of the 2021 NHL Entry Draft by the New Jersey Devils has no National Hockey League experience under his belt and has spent the last 3 seasons of his professional career in the American Hockey League. In his most recent season, Stillman split time between the Utica Comets and the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins and appeared in 65 AHL games, scoring 4 goals and adding 8 assists for a total of 12 points on the season.
It would be hard to argue that Silovs is not the best player in this deal given that he does in fact have NHL experience, 19 games of it all of which have come as a member of the Vancouver Canucks. Silovs is coming fresh off of a Calder Cup victory wit hthe AHL's Abbotsford Canucks, one in which he was credited for his heroics. Over 24 playoffs games Silovs recorded a very impressive 2.01 goals against average and a .931 save percentage, raising his stock in the eyes of many in the hockey community.
We won't know for some time how that fourth round pick will play out for the Canucks, but it could very well prove to be the most significant piece of the return they received here today.
