The Vancouver Canucks have come up short… Since the opening day of Free Agency on Tuesday, the Canucks have reportedly been looking to upgrade their centre position, but general manager Patrik Allvin has been rejected by the two top star free agent forwards he had on his radar.

According to the Fourth Period and Canucks insider Rick Dhaliwal of CHEK, both Mikael Granlund and Christian Dvorak turned down offers from Vancouver to sign elsewhere.

According to Dhaliwal, the Canucks may have pitched Dvorak a three-year, $12 million deal, but he ultimately chose Philadelphia, where he inked a one-year, $5.4 million contract with the Flyers.

As for Granlund, it is believed that Vancouver had discussed a four-year deal with Granlund worth around $6 million AAV, but Granlund instead chose to join the Anaheim Ducks on a three-year contract, worth $7 million per year.

At least for Canucks’ fans, the team managed to have a successful opening to free agency when they re-signed Brock Boeser to the seven-year, $50.25 million within the hour leading up to the free agent market officially opening.

Vancouver also extended goalie Thatcher Demko and forward Conor Garland. Too bad the Canucks missed out on both Granlund and Dvorak, but at least, they still made significant moves heading into the 2025-26 season, and the summer ain’t over.
