Details into Mitch Love investigation revealed as the NHL hands down a huge suspension.
There has been some breaking news on the mysterious story surrounding Washington Capitals coach Mitch Love.
Back in September of this year the Capitals made a surprise announcement when they revealed that Mitch Love, a prominent member of the team's coaching staff, had been placed on leave pending an investigation from the National Hockey League. Love had been considered a favorite for several high profile head coaching jobs in the NHL during the offseason, including reportedly being a shoe-in for the job behind the bench of the Boston Bruins, but for one reason or another had been passed over.
The combination of Love not getting the jobs many expected him to land and the subsequent investigation created an air of mystery around his team imposed leave.
Now more details are emerging with NHL insider Frank Seravalli shedding light on what has been going on behind the scenes as it pertains to Love and the investigation from the NHL. On Sunday, Seravalli revealed that his sources have informed him that Love has been suspended for a full year as a result of their investigation. Furthermore, Seravalli has also revealed that the investigation was centered around alleged acts of domestic violence.
Seravalli also adds that the alleged victim of these incidents reported their story directly to the NHL as well as a number of teams in the league.
There had been reports that teams interviewing Love for head coaching jobs had received a letter during the interview process, and based on Seravalli's reporting I now believe that letter contained allegations from the alleged victim.
This all paints a very dark picture and I do wonder what this means for Love's future in the National Hockey League.
