The Montreal Canadiens held their season opener at the Bell Center on Wednesday night and kicked off the night by introducing the coaching staff and the players who weren’t taking part in tonight’s game against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
The introduction ended with the name of star goalie Carey Price’s name being heard on the microphone and the fans in attendance going crazy.
Price stepped out in a suit with a cowboy hat on and saluted fans even shook some hands as the crowd chanted him name.
The goalie, sidelined by injuries and unlikely to play again, looked moved by the ovation and even looked tearful as he took in the support of the fanbase.
Try not to cry:
Earlier on Wednesday, a heartbreaking update on Montreal Canadiens goalie Carey Price was provided by The Athletic after he told them that he does not feel close to returning. Though Price hasn’t giving up hope to return one day, he would need to undergo a pretty risky procedure to his knee to make it all work.
This is probably the last time Price is being included in the Canadiens' home opening celebrations and the star player soaked it all in.
This was moving and you could feel how much Price appreciate it. Now, he will be cheering on his teammates, starting tonight against the Maple Leafs who got the expected welcome: they were booed as soon as they touched the ice.
Goosebumps.
