Carey Price has been taking practices to a next level with the Montreal Canadiens and there was speculation that he could return to the team.

That time has come.

Price will get the start tonight in Montreal as the Canadiens host the New York Islanders. The Habs and head coach Martin St. Louis later confirmed the news.

This will be a very special night, not only because Price returns, but also because in heartbreaking news, legend Mike Bossy passed on Friday at just 65 years old. In one of those incredible coincidences, the Islanders are in Montreal, his hometown, for tonight’s game.

There were signs that his return was coming soon. On Tuesday, the Canadiens placed forward Jonathan Drouin on long-term injured reserve, therefore creating enough cap space to activate Price for a return before the end of the regular season calendar. Drouin has been out of the lineup since March 21st.

Price has yet to play this season following a stint in the players’ assistance program due to substance abuse and then the recovery process of his knee injury.

During the 2021-22 season, Price posted a 12-7-5 record with a 2.64 goals-against average and .901 save percentage in the regular season, In the playoffs, he played 22 games, going 13-9-0 with a 2.28 GAA and .924 save percentage, leading Montreal to their first Stanley Cup Final appearance since 1993.
