Carey Price shares his thoughts on the passing of the legendary Habs goaltender.
As the hockey world wakes up to the terrible news that former Montreal Canadiens goaltender Ken Dryden has tragically passed away, more and more figures from around the globe are sharing their thoughts on the remarkable life Dryden lived.
Earlier today Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney took a moment to remember the impact Dryden had on his life, and now someone much closer to fans of the Montreal Canadiens is speaking out with former Habs goaltender Carey Price speaking out.
On Saturday, Price took to social media to share his thoughts on a man who occupied the same position he did, albeit many years before Price ever even conceived of playing in the National Hockey League. Like many have done today, Price not only singled out Dryden's accomplishments on the ice but also took the time to mention what he achieved as a great Canadian over the years as well.
From Price:
With a heavy heart, I extend my deepest condolences to the Dryden family. Thank you Mr. Dryden, for your service not only as a Canadien, but also as a Canadian. You helped me as a young goaltender and I will always be grateful for your thoughtful words of encouragement.
It would have been easy to understand why Price would have looked up to a man like Dryden, who remained close to the Habs organization, given just how much success Dryden had during his NHL career. Dryden captured 6 Stanley Cups, 5 Vezina Trophies, a Conn Smythe and a Calder Trophy during what was a relatively short NHL career and was an inspiration for goaltenders all around the world.
That Price had the additional experience of receiving words of encouragement from Dryden is no doubt something he will cherish forever.
Once again my thoughts are with the Dryden family and all of their loved ones at this time.
