It looks like Carey Price's NHL career may be over...
The 35 year old netminder will NOT play this upcoming season according to Montreal Canadiens GM Kent Hughes. When asked about Price by the media today, Hughes stated “at this point in time, the news of Carey's knee is pretty discouraging" and that he "doesn't see a path for Carey Price to return and play during the 2022-23 season."
Ouch...
Price, of course, was limited to just five games this past season due to injury and to a stint with the NHL's substance abuse recovery program. In total he has played just 30 games over the past two seasons and, at this point, you have to imagine that his NHL career may be over. He's 35 years old, he has chronic injury issues and the Habs aren't pushing for a playoff spot anytime soon. Frankly, if I were in Price's spot I'd have no problem packing it in. Sure, he doesn't have the Stanley Cup championship that he's been chasing his whole life, but he's an Olympic gold medalist, a Vezina Trophy winner and a Hart Trophy winner. Aside from the Cup, which won't likely happen in Montreal, he's done it all.
