A very scary moment on Saturday night.
Oh boy did this one ever look bad.
On Saturday night during a game between the New York Rangers and Pittsburgh Penguins, Rangers veteran defenseman Carson Soucy suffered a very scary looking injury. Soucy, who is just in his 2nd season with the Rangers, was involved in a very awkward collision with Penguins forward Rickard Rakell along the boards, one that caused him to fall in even more awkward fashion.
Soucy would go over Rakell's body after attempting to close the distance for a hit, but Rakell proved to be too quick. Instead of delivering the punishing hit he had likely envisioned, Soucy was unable to stop his forward momentum and sent himself flying head first into the boards at a terrible looking angle. The impact would cause Soucy's neck and head to bend at an ugly looking angle and resulted in him being briefly laid out on the ice.
Thankfully Soucy would be able to get back up and did leave the game under his own power, but he seemed to be in rough shape as he made his exit and he has yet to return to the game since the incident.
I would not be surprised if we don't see him back for some time.
Here is a look at the replay at real speed:
Now in reverse and in slow motion:
I can only hope that Soucy has managed to avoid any serious injuries.
