Casey DeSmith reacts badly to being traded to Habs

The Montreal Canadiens have themselves a new goaltender in the form of Casey DeSmith, who was acquired as part of the 3-team trade that sent Erik Karlsson from the San Jose Sharks to the Pittsburgh Penguins. 

The full trade: 

• Pittsburgh acquires defenseman Erik Karlsson, forward Rem Pitlick, forward Dillon Hamaliuk and San Jose's 2026 third-round draft pick.
• San Jose acquires Pittsburgh's 2024 first-round draft pick (top-10 protected), forward Mikael Granlund, defenseman Jan Rutta and forward Mike Hoffman.
• Montreal acquires Pittsburgh's 2025 second-round draft pick, defenseman Jeff Petry, goaltender Casey DeSmith and forward Nathan Legare.

But according to TVA Sports journalist Anthony Martineau, DeSmith hasn't taken well to the trade given the timing of his wife's pregnancy. 

"On me confie que Casey DeSmith et sa conjointe vivent beaucoup d’angoisse actuellement. Cette dernière doit accoucher dans les prochaines heures/jours et est toujours à Pittsburgh. Le gardien, lui, attend de savoir dans quelles circonstances il devra déménager son petit clan."

Translation: 

"I am told that Casey DeSmith and his wife are going through a lot of anxiety right now. The latter is due to give birth in the next few hours/days and is still in Pittsburgh. The guardian is waiting to find out under what circumstances he will have to move his little clan."

The Canadiens are said to be potentially interested in moving a goaltender, meaning DeSmith could once again find himself on the move despite his family situation.
