The Bruins star suffered a fractured jaw earlier this month, but his latest update has fans buzzing.
Hockey players are warriors. And Charlie McAvoy is proving it again on Wednesday. The Boston Bruins defenseman suffered a slap shot directly to the face in Montreal, resulting in a linear jaw fracture that required surgery earlier this month.
Last week, he told media about his recovery and about the physical toll of the injury. He’s lost nearly 20 pounds, being restricted to an all-liquid diet. Doctors told him it will be roughly six weeks from surgery before he can return to solid foods.
But apparently that won’t stop him from returning much earlier than anyone anticipated.
On Wednesday, McAvoy lead the stretch at center ice with his teammates ahead of Thursday night’s game against the Jets in Winnipeg.
There is chance he is inserted back into the lineup to face the Jets, per Daily Face-Off.
While we all know McAvoy has faced other challenges in his career, including a right-shoulder AC joint injury suffered during the 4 Nations Face-Off tournament last February, no one could have imagined he would be back this early.
This is great news for the Bruins as McAvoy has been the backbone of Boston’s defense this season, posting 14 assists and logging heavy minutes in all situations.
