The Boston Bruins have been without star defenseman Charlie McAvoy since he was injured earlier this month when he was on the receiving end of a puck to the face.

It was a very scary incident with McAvoy eating a one-timer slapshot from Montreal Canadiens star defenseman Noah Dobson directly to his unprotected face, with the puck managing to strike him just underneath his visor in sickening fashion.

McAvoy would remain down on the ice for several long moments after being hit by the puck but was able to eventually leave the game under his own power. The Bruins would later announce that McAvoy would have facial surgery as a result of his injuries, and unsurprisingly he has yet to return to the ice since the incident.

On Sunday night however we did receive an unexpected update on McAvoy via an untraditional source, with his wife Kiley taking to social media to give fans an update. Sharing the post as a part of her Instagram story, Kiley shared the first image of McAvoy since the injury. The photo shows Charlie McAvoy and what appears to be the couple's son, Rhys Michael McAvoy, sitting in chair with a backdrop that makes it look very much like they are in a hospital.

When you take into consideration just how bad things looked when he was struck by the puck, I think McAvoy looks pretty good for a guy that just had facial surgery. Here's a look at the photo:

Hopefully both of the McAvoy boys continue to make a full and speedy recovery.
