Despite the fact that he is coming off of a second consecutive ruptured Achilles tendon.
The 2022-23 season was just terrible for Carolina Hurricanes forward Max Pacioretty. He is coming off of a second consecutive ruptured Achilles tendon suffered with the Canes, the injury that was supposedly repaired during the summer, but was ruptured again five games into the campaign…
It didn’t long after this blow for rumours to surface that the Hurricanes might move on from Pacioretty and let him hit free agency on Saturday despite his questionable return date to action.
However, it sounds like one contender wouldn’t mind taking a risk with the pending unrestricted free agent forward. According to insider Frank Seravalli, the Colorado Avalanche could be interested in signing Pacioretty and could manage to pull it off thanks to a unique contract clause. Here is how the insider put it on Daily Face-Off.
The Avalanche is one year removed from winning the Stanley Cup and is desperately looking for secondary scoring this summer. The team has made some significant additions lately, acquiring acquiring Ryan Johansen from the Nashville Predators and Ross Colton from the Tampa Bay Lightning. But Pacioretty could be added depth up front, which will be much needed in Colorado following the news that Gabriel Landeskog, who already missed all of this season, could be out all 2023-24 as well.
The Ans could look to sign a top forward to a one-year deal and Pacioretty could be a fit. He remains a solid middle-six option for Colorado and could want a go at a chance at a cup before retiring. He could get that with the Avalanche.
Things will get very interesting, starting tomorrow.
