The Blackhawks picked up Brad Richards to help their depth at center, something that was a concern during the playoffs against deeper teams. However since the start of the season Richards, depsite having 9 points through 16 games has only averaged 12 minutes a night. The Blackhawks were hoping Andrew Shaw take a step up this season but Shaw has just 6 points in those 16 games and is a -2 on the year. Richards' plus minus on the other hand is dead even. Teuvo Teravainen is the future at center for the Blackhawks but they've kept him in the minors so it's almost puzzling to see the veteran Richards get so little ice time. Perhaps it's just a question of Head Coach Joel Quenneville having no faith in him. Richards despite playing under nightmare coach John Tortorella has 151 points over his last three seasons of play, and I believe that if the Blackhawks are to contend for a cup this season, Richards will need to play a bigger role.
