We unfortunately have some disturbing news to bring you tonight.

According to a report from Scott Brown of the Vancouver Sun, the children of Vancouver Canucks general manager Jim Benning were attacked over the weekend in the Yaletown neighborhood of Vancouver. Jim's daughter, Danica Benning, reported the assault on her Instagram where she claims that her brother was attacked by a group of men.

According to Danica's account of the events, the attack occurred sometime around 2:00 am outside of the restaurant Banter Room on Mainland Street. Her brother, whom she did not name in the post, was allegedly getting an Uber for both her and himself when he was jumped by four men. According to Danica the attack was quite severe with her claiming that the men had "almost beat him to death."

That may sound somewhat extreme, but Brown was able to obtain comment from a police spokesperson who was able to confirm that the victim had suffered significant injuries.

"A 25-year-old man had very visible injuries to his face," said spokesperson Const. Tania Visintin as per the Vancouver Sun. "He declined any assistance from paramedics and told officers he would go to the hospital himself."

The fact that her brother, who Brown believes was Nicholas Benning, the youngest of Jim Benning's sons, was able to get to the hospital of his own accord is hopefully a sign that he is going to be alright despite the attack, at least relatively speaking.

The good news here is that Danica was able to confirm that police are now investigating the matter and she issued a plea on social media to anyone who may have witnessed the assault or perhaps was even able to capture any video or images of the attack on her brother. Hopefully law enforcement officials will be able to bring the perpetrators of this crime to justice.

At the time of this writing neither the Canucks organization or Jim Benning have issued any kind of statement regarding this matter.

Here is how Danica described the attack, in her own words, on her Instagram:

Regardless of which brother was indeed assaulted, we wish him a speedy recovery and hope both he and his family will be able to recover from this ordeal.
