Fans finally got to know why Chris Kreider had been missing from action. The poor guy caught hand, foot, and mouth disease (HFMD)! Speaking candidly, the Anaheim Ducks forward explained how the illness sidelined him for the past several days.

“They didn’t want to give anyone on the team that, so I was locked in the hotel room for a few days. Yeah, it’s awful. I don’t recommend it,” Kreider said.

HFMD, which is more commonly seen in children than professional athletes, can be extremely contagious and uncomfortable, causing fever, blisters, and general fatigue. It’s the last thing anyone wants when the NHL season is in full swing.

The Ducks’ decision to isolate him was a precautionary measure to prevent an outbreak in the locker room, a move that likely saved his teammates from a painful experience of their own.

Despite the discomfort, Kreider is now back in action and laughing about the ordeal. He is expected to return to the lineup later tonight when the Ducks host the Detroit Red Wings.

While hand, foot, and mouth disease isn’t exactly headline-grabbing compared to goals or hits, Kreider’s candid recounting makes it one of the more relatable stories of the season.

The Ducks are happy to have Kreider back in the fold, he who recorded four goals and five points in five appearances with Anaheim this season. He will probably serve on the first line, and Jansen Harkins might be a healthy scratch after logging just 6:35 of ice time Tuesday.
