Chris Kreider Signs a 1 Year Deal On Saturday!

Chris Kreider has found a new home.

On Saturday, the Montreal Canadiens announced that they had come to terms with Kreider on what will be a 1 year contract for the 2026-27 National Hockey League season. This move comes of course after Kreider walked away from his contract with the Anaheim Ducks earlier in the week, leaving millions on the table in the process.

It does sound like Kreider will be made whole in this deal but he will have to perform in order to do so.

According to a report from NHL insider Chris Johnston, Kreider's new deal carries an average annual value and salary cap hit of just $2.15 million per season. That being said, Kreider's new deal does have some significant bonus money attach to it which could Bring Kreider an additional $3.25 million on this deal.

Kreider is coming off a season with the Anaheim Ducks in which he excelled alongside young players like Leo Carlsson, Troy Terry and Cutter Gauthier and the Canadiens have plenty of young players on their roster. Kreider will likely get the chance to play with the likes of Juraj Slafkovsky, Cole Caufield, Ivan Demidov and more, which bodes well for both sides in this deal.

Kreider hads 22 goals and 28 assists for 50 points in 75 games with the Ducks last season.

One final note here, it will be very interesting to see how Kreider is received by long time fans of the Montreal Canadiens. Many of those fans have resented Kreider for years for the injury he caused to former Canadiens goaltender Carey Price, an injury that cut Price's career short prematurely.
