This is a very scary sight for the Toronto Maple Leafs.

On Saturday night during a game against the Philadelphia Flyers, Maple Leafs veteran defenseman Chris Tanev was seriously injured in a collision with Flyers star forward Matvei Michkov.

It was an awkward collision between the two men with Michkov skating into Tanev from behind while Tanev skated backwards into Michkov without ever realizing that the Flyers forward was behind him. It didn't look like the worst collision in the world, but it was obvious that Tanev was in very bad shape after the impact.

Tanev would remain down on the ice for several long moments and did not appear to be moving initially as the training staff rushed to the ice to render aid. Tanev would eventually begin communicating with the training staff but they made the decision to load him up onto a stretcher and cart him off the ice, perhaps for precautionary reasons.

Tanev is fresh off of a concussion and this latest injury does raise questions about whether or not Tanev was indeed fully recovered prior to returning to action in what was his first game back from the injury.

No official word yet on Tanev's condition, but stay tuned for updates.

Stay tuned for more details.
