Poor Stars defenseman only got to play a shift before a brutal collision:
On Tuesday, Stars fans were impatiently awaiting an update on Dallas defenseman Chris Tanev ahead of Game 5 in the second round series against the Colorado Avalanche.
Hours prior to puck drop on Wednesday, head coach Pete DeBoer had announced that while forward Roope Hintz would miss the contest, Tanev was going to play.
That did not last long…
Tanev had taken a big hit from Ross Colton near end of Game 4 and stayed off the ice the past two days. In the first minutes of Game 5, Tanev took another big hit in front on his own net and moments later was seen heading to the Stars’ dressing room with a trainer in tow.
Fans were worried about Tanev’s status when finally mid-way through the first period, the blue liner returned to his team’s bench with ESPN’s Ray Ferraro saying that he had probably had a few stitches done.
Later on, Emily Kaplan found out later in the game from coach DeBoer that Tanev had at least one tooth pulled before getting back out there later in the first frame.
“Warrior…. He only has a few teeth, not sure how many he has left.”
There is no doubt that injuries are starting to mount, however, Tanev, who was brought to Dallas near the trade deadline in a blockbuster move, wants to reach the Stanley Cup Final. With the chance to eliminate the Avalanche in four games tonight, he is not going to miss out on the action.
