Details inside
It has been hard to really gage the Canucks season so far. They are 1 game under .500 but add to that their 9 overtime loses and they are currently 3rd in the Pacific division. It has been an up and down season with consistency being the main issue. The Canucks have been good but have also been bad.
The Sedin twins once again lead the team in points. Daniel has 36 points in 36 games and Henrik, who missed 2 games, has 32 points in 34 games. The problem lies with that the next player behind them has only 20 points. That player is Jannik Hansen who played along side the twins for some time. Secondary scoring is lacking for the Canucks. Add to that Alex Edler is the only defenceman with over 10 points, that is also a concern. Look at some of the top teams in the league, they have a lot of help from the backend. It will be something the Canucks will have to hope gets better.
They do have many young faces in or that have been in the lineup so in that regard, it is a big positive. Players like Jared McCann, Jake Virtanen and Hunter Shinkaruk show that the Canucks have some great young talent in their organisation.
So what can the Canucks expect for in 2016? The Canucks lead the league in overtime losses. If they could have won half of those, they would be in a better situation. The main thing with the Canucks will be secondary scoring, whether it comes form their defense or other forward lines, they need more than just the Sedins providing consistant scoring. If they can figure that out, it will go a long way to returning to the playoffs.
