A former teammate, always a friend.
The Montreal Canadiens are back on the road following the holiday break, however, they faced a hurdle as soon as they attempted to make their way to Tampa Bay for Wednesday night’s game against the Lightning.
Team insider Eric Engels of Sportsnet reported earlier on Tuesday that the Habs’ plans had changed for their arrival in Tampa, posting:
“Canadiens were delayed getting to Tampa and have moved their scheduled practice from 3pm to 6pm.”
Former Canadiens forward and now Lightning veteran Corey Perry waited for his old friends to show up later than expected at the arena for their practice and greeted them. The classy and sweet gesture was caught by the Habs’ social media team with Perry hugging captain Nick Suzuki and star forward Cole Caufield in front of the visiting team’s dressing room.
Perry could have probably headed home way before the Canadiens showed up that evening, but it looks like he wanted to catch up with old friends.
You gotta love the class from the veteran player. He may be hated on the ice, but he is the type of player you want on your team. And the friendship lasts afterwards.
When it was announced that the Canadiens would be arriving late in Tampa, Engels did not explain if it had anything to do with the weather, though it would make sense. On Tuesday night, the Sabres game against the Blue Jackets in Columbus was postponed by the NHL because Buffalo International Airport remains closed due to a severe winter storm that has paralyzed the region.
Ahead of their game Wednesday night against the Bolts, the Canadiens shared their lines from Tuesday’s practice, with forward Brendan Gallagher participating in a non-contact jersey.
