Before star forward Claude Giroux ended up in Ottawa, he was first a proud Philadelphia Flyer, and for a short time, a Florida Panther. However, the former Flyers’ captain was almost traded elsewhere before he landed in Miami, and that’s because Colorado was Giroux’s first choice when he accepted to be traded out of Philadelphia to join a Stanley Cup contender.

The deal to the Avalanche never worked out and Giroux became a member of the Panthers, playing 18 games in the regular season, and 10 playoff games in 2022.

However, the Avs were so confident they were getting Giroux prior to the 2022 trade deadline that Colorado had two Giroux home jerseys made. The sweaters were ready and waiting for him with his name and his familiar No. 28 — to present at an introductory news conference when the trade to the Avalanche was finalized.

You have to wonder how close we came to see Giroux joining the Avalanche and hoisting the Stanley Cup in the summer of 2022 if freaking jerseys were made and ready for him to put on! The trade rumour was wilder than many insiders thought at the time it seems...

What to do with these jerseys now? According to Jeff Veillette, staff writer at Canada Sports Betting, the Giroux jerseys are being auctioned off with proceeds going back to owner Stan Kroenke’s Kroenke Sports Charities.

A Giroux Colorado jersey would be quite a unique collectible to have and you can take part in the ongoing auction here.

Colorado, without Giroux, won the Stanley Cup in 2022. The top forward chose to head back home to Ottawa, signing a three-year contract with the Senators last season. He scored 35 goals and 79 points in 82 games for the Senators.
