Claude Giroux has signed on the dotted lined.

National Hockey League insider Chris Johnston broke the news on Sunday that Giroux had comes to terms with the Ottawa Senators on what will be a 1 year deal with a heavy focus on a bonus structure.

According to Johnson, Giroux will earn $2 million in base salary next season but can far surpass that amount with the potential to reach an additional $2.75 million in bonuses.

There are a ton of bonuses linked to Giroux's contract so here is a full breakdown of how Giroux can earn that additional $2.75 million next season:

Regular Season.

$250,000 for 20 games played.
$250,000 for 30 games played.
$250,000 for 60 games played.
$250,000 if the Senators make the playoffs and Giroux has played in 50 or more games.

Playoffs.

$500,000 if the Senators win Round 1.
$250,000 if the Senators win Round 2.
$500,000 if the Senators win Round 3,
$500,000 if the Senators win the Stanley Cup.

A significant portion of Giroux's money is linked to playoff success which means that even if he were to earn the full $4.75 million on his contract next season, the Senators would be more than happy to pay it.

Giroux is fresh off the heels of a productive season with the Senators, one in which he had 15 goals and 35 assists for a total of 50 points last season. He stepped his production up in the playoffs as well with a goal and 4 assists for 5 points over 6 playoff games with the Senators this season.

This seems likely a team friendly deal for the Senators, especially when you consider the intangibles that Giroux brings to the table not only as an NHL veteran, but a former NHL captain.
