On Wednesday, a day after a public vote went against a proposed Tempe Sports and Entertainment district that would have kept the Arizona Coyotes in the East Valley city, forward Clayton Keller started trending when his father allegedly posted a tweet stating that his son would leave the Yotes. He even added that some of his teammates to leave as well or not sign with the team.

Finally we get an explanation on Friday morning as Coyotes insider Craig Morgan shared that Keller’s father’s account was hacked and that he was not the one behind the controversial tweet. This is Brian Keller’s statement he made to Morgan:

“Wednesday morning, while out of town on business, I was informed by several friends a couple of Twitter messages were apparently sent from my personal account regarding the vote on the proposed arena in Tempe and my son, Clayton Keller’s future in AZ.

“I am writing to inform anyone who read those messages that my Twitter account was hacked and the messages were sent out by the hacker. I want to make it clear that I did not authorize these messages and they do not reflect my personal views or opinions.

“This matter has been reported and my account is now secure. Everyone who knows me knows my opinions are all mine and I own them! These were not my comments or views on the matter. I want to apologize for any confusion this caused anyone.”

This clears up a lot of confusion indeed, especially since Keller signed an eight-year $57.2 million contract in September 2019 which took effect in the 2020-21 season.

The 24-year-old put up 86 points including 37 goals, in 82 games this season and it looks like Keller will continue to do so for the Coyotes, despite their uncertain future in Arizona.
