Detroit Red Wings head Coach Mike Babcock made two interesting statements: 1- He firmly believes this is not his last year in Hockeytown. 2- The Top line needs to step it up, and must do so as of tonight. As we reported yesterday, the Red Wings organisation plans on making a contract extension offer to coach Babcock prior to the regular season’s first game. Should negotiations stall, they would be put aside until the end of the season. We’re all excited to see Riley Sheahan’s line, with Tomas Tatar and Tomas Jurco, firing on all cylinders during the preseason. But the coach is now demanding his Top line, which consists of Henrik Zetterberg, Johan Franzen and Gustav Nyquist, to start producing the way it should, and wants to see that as of tonight’s game against the Pittsburgh Penguins. As Babcock said “They got to get going. Our kids have won three and the big dogs are 0-1…”
