Coach Bednar releases an update on Nathan MacKinnon and it's NOT good

Yikes... the Avs have awful injury luck this season. Up to 22 forwards used this season alone... with MacKinnon being the most difficult to replace.

UPDATE: Colorado Avalanche head coach Jared Bednar released somewhat of an update on superstar Nathan MacKinnon's health this morning and... well... it ain't good.

Here's what Bednar had to say this morning to Avs insider Vic Lombardi:

"The fact he's leaving early in the game is not a good sign. We know he's gonna miss some time. Just don't know how long".

- Jared Bednar

Yikes... with MacKinnon out that means the Avs will have used their 22nd forward due to injury this season.

Editor's Note: This is an update to our earlier published report from yesterday evening. For the earlier report on this developing story, please read below.

Colorado Avalanche superstar Nathan MacKinnon has left tonight's game against the Philadelphia Flyers with an apparent injury.

MacKinnon appeared to jam something while taking a point shot, but it's not exactly clear how he gets injured or, frankly, what part of his body he injures.

Check it out:

MacKinnon left the game with about 8 minutes left in the 1st period and the team announced shortly after that he would NOT be returning to the game.

The Avs have also been without captain Gabriel Landeskog, forwards Evan Rodrigues, Valeri Nichushkin and Arturri Lehkonen, as well as defensemen Bowen Byram and Josh Manson. The Avs have arguably hit with the worst injury news in the entire league and MacKinnon's injury makes their situation even worse. Stay tuned for a full update on his status following tonight's game.
