The Disney+ series The Mighty Ducks is getting ready to hit the ice as production gets underway, and while it was first thought to be a reboot, today’s breaking news will change things significantly.
Disney+ has announced that Emilio Estevez has signed on to return to his iconic role as coach Gordon Bombay.
Estevez will lead the ten-episode, half-hour series. We still don’t know if any other stars from the original film will make an appearance on the series, but with Estevez appearing, it could be a good sign.
Estevez starred in both The Mighty Ducks and its sequel D2: The Mighty Ducks as the player turned coach Gordon Bombay. He led a group of ragtag friends to become hockey champions. We were all looking forward to seeing him in the franchise’s third outing, D3: The Mighty Ducks, but due to scheduling conflicts his role was reduced to a cameo.
We cannot wait to see him back on screen for the series. Production on the series is set to kick off on February 10, 2020, in Vancouver, Canada.
