Sometimes NHL officials see things on the ice that... well... that aren't real at all.

Tonight, Montreal Canadiens defenseman Lane Hutson got to experience that first hand.

Hutson was called for a trip on Minnesota Wild forward Marcus Foligno despite the fact that his stick and his body was nowhere near Foligno. In fact, Foligno simply tripped over the blueline.

Hutson was in disbelief and Canadiens head coach Martin St. Louis absolutely lost his mind on the officials.

Honestly, that's a more subdued reaction than I would have in that scenario. The Habs were up a goal late in the 2nd period when this call was made.

Yeesh...

You know it's a bad call when the official comes over to the penalty box to apologize...
