Things are getting ugly in Steeltown.

The Pittsburgh Penguins got absolutely outclassed and embarrassed on home ice by the visiting Edmonton Oilers this evening.

The Oilers scored an easy 7-2 victory thanks to a lackluster effort from the Penguins, which is quickly becoming a common story for this Penguins team. The team has lost four straight and is at serious risk of missing out on the Stanley Cup Playoffs in nearly two decades. The reality is that if this team doesn't get its act together in the next while, they're going to miss the playoffs and there will be massive changes in the organization, both on the ice and in its management ranks.

GM Ron Hextall has received some well earned criticism from the team's fanbase this season, but tonight Penguins fans took it to another level. The crowd at PPG Paints Arena broke into several "FIRE HEXTALL!" chants during the course of the game.

Check it out:

Yikes...

Things are about to get ugly in Pittsburgh. I can't imagine what kind of offseason gutting we'll see if this team comes up short of the post-season.

Following tonight's debacle, Penguins head coach took questions from the media and one of his comments is sticking out with Penguins fans. When asked about his roster Sullivan appears to throw some shade at GM Hextall, saying "our roster is our roster. We have what we have."

Sullivan's full comments:

Yeesh...

I guess I get what Sullivan is trying to say here, but it doesn't come off very well. I don't think he's actively trying to throw Hextall under the bus, but comments like that make it sounds like the coach and his boss aren't exactly on the same page.

To be honest though, if this team can't right the ship then I don't think either of them will be employed by the team next season. People can point fingers all they want, but at the end of the day you have to win some hockey games.
