It's hard to believe that this past April marked five years since the untimely death of former Boston Bruins and Edmonton Oilers forward Colby Cave.

Colby died suddenly in April, 2020 after doctors conducted emergency surgery to remove a cyst in his brain. He was just 25 years old and had been married to his wife Emily Cave for less than a year.

It was a tragic moment for the entire hockey world and one that thrust Emily into the spotlight. She made it her life's mission to share her husband's legacy and to live a life of philanthropy so that other family's didn't have to suffer through the pain and sorrow that she and her family suffered through.

Emily has worked with both the Bruins, the Oilers and their AHL affiliates to create charitable programs in Colby's honor, usually with a focus on children.

In the past few months though, Emily has posted some concerning messages on social media. Messages that have made fans question... well... just what the Hell is going on!?

Earlier this month she claimed on Twitter (Not gonna call it X, get over it) that she had been 'biting her tongue' on the Oilers' 50/50 ticket money and contributions to the Colby Cave memorial fund. She also claims she was told that "tears make more money" and that her "story line" needed more trauma to keep Colby's legacy going.

Now, just yesterday she posted on Twitter stating that, among other things, there is over $1 million in funds missing and that the "politics and business side of Colby's death" has completely turned her off of her charitable work.

From Cave herself:

Yikes...

Without knowing the specifics behind what Emily is talking about I can't make an informed opinion on things, but this has the potential to get ugly.

I'll say this though...

Purely stating facts here that can be researched through the Canada Revenue Agency:

In 2024, the Oilers Community Foundation claimed $104,943,769 non tax receipted income . They claimed $28,351,379 expensed on licenses, memberships and dues, $54,070,921 on “other expenditures”. There was $86,536,009 in total expenditures. Of that, only $1,716,715 was on charitable activities; $83,497,321 was spent on fundraising.

So... of the over $100 million that the Foundation raised, only $1.7 million was used on charitable activities.

Again, no allegations here... just stating facts. Draw your own conclusions.
