Concern surrounding Covid outbreak in Senators organization.
The Sens appear to have shut things down.
The Ottawa Senators have had a bit of a dust up with Covid, but there are now signs that the concerns surrounding this particular outbreak may not be typical to some of the other positive tests we have seen across the National Hockey League.
First, on Sunday it was reported that both coach Jack Capuano and veteran defenseman Nick Holden would be sidelined as they entered the league's Covid protocols. Presumably this news came as the result of positive tests for both Capuano and Holden, and as you would expect in such cases they were to be held out until they had tested negative twice in a row.
Now however there are signs that the concerns in Ottawa may extend beyond Capuano and Holden, and while that is bad news for the Senators it could also mean trouble for some other team around the league.
Senators insider Bruce Garrioch is now reporting that the Senators have cancelled this morning's practice entirely as they await the results of further testing. It would appear that there is concern this particular outbreak may spread beyond just the two names that have been reported so far, and with the Senators set to face the Bruins in just a little over 24 hours that is a big cause for concern.
The Ottawa Senators have had players entering the league's covid protocols since returning from a road trip last week but this is the first time that we have seen a full on cancelation of a team activity, at least one as public as a team practice. What this might mean for the Senators moving forward will likely depend entirely on the results of the further testing that the team is currently awaiting.
The last thing the Senators need this season is to have several of their players sidelined by the virus. In spite of the fact that the team was hoping to surprise this season they have just 3 wins through their first 11 games. They can ill afford to lose multiple players for any length of time.
Update: Senators announce two more have entered the covid protocol.
