A devastating fire in Antigonish has claimed a 5 unit condo complex, leaving 3 young hockey players as well as their strength and conditioning coach effectively homeless. One man who lives across the street from where the blazing inferno took place could not believe his own eyes when he saw the building engulfed in flames.

"The embers just lit up the whole sky, I’ve never seen anything like it," said neighbor Pete Norman as per Saltwire. "By four a.m. it was just a ball of fire."

A different neighbor reportedly spent his Friday morning watering down his own house with a hose to make sure that the structure would not also catch on fire. That neighbor was stunned by the heat generated by the inferno that took down the condo complex, telling reporters that he could not so much as open his door to get a closer look.

"We couldn’t open the front door because the heat was so strong," said the neighbor.

The 3 young players and their coach are all part of the St. Francis Xavier University athletic community where they represent the St. Francis Xavier University X-Men, and thankfully that community has rallied behind them in this trying time. The community has already raised thousands of dollars via two different GoFunMe campaigns and unsurprisingly according to comments from St. F.X. sports information officer Krista McKenna, some of the donors from the hockey community wouldn't even take credit for their contributions.

"I actually had a donor who is willing to match up to $1,000 so he wanted to put the call out there to current X-Men parents and alumni to try to rally their support," said McKenna as per the Journal Pioneer. "He wanted to be anonymous but people in hockey are always really supportive like that. As hard as it was for the guys to lose all their stuff, they're kind of overwhelmed with all the support that's come through in just one day."

Just more evidence that no sport in the world has a better community than the one found in the hockey world, and hopefully despite this terrible incident all of those impacted by this tragedy will be back on their feet quickly thanks in large part to that wonderful community.
