There are conflicting reports online this evening that veteran Los Angeles Kings forward Phillip Danault has asked for a trade.

NHL insider David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period reported over the weekend that teams have been calling Kings GM Ken Holland inquiring about Danault. This has reportedly led to reports that Danault's agent himself is behind the rumors in an effort to get his client moved. Pagnotta himself reports that Danault himself hasn't requested a trade, but that he's definitely in play in trade talks.

From Pagnotta today:

Phil Danault’s name popped up over the weekend, and I suspect that is a result of teams calling and asking about his availability due to his on-ice struggles. Is a change of scenery best for him? His line has played better and he has gotten looks over the last few games, but teams seem to be curious. A few weeks ago, there was talk he asked for a trade, but sources say that is not the case.

The 32 year old Danault is in year 5 of a 6 year deal that pays him $5.5 million per season. He has just five assists through 29 games with the Kings this season.
