The facts are there: the Vegas Golden Knights won the Stanley Cup. Forward Jonathan Marchessault was awarded the Conn Smythe Trophy, given to the most valuable player of the playoffs following the Golden Knights’ commanding 9-3 Stanley Cup-clinching Game 5 victory over the Florida Panthers.
It’s all there.

However, on Wednesday, Marchessault revealed how throughtout the first season with Bruce Cassidy at the helm of the team, he didn’t always find it easy to get along with the new bench boss. In an interview with TVA Sports, Marchessault explained how Cassidy isn’t his most favourite coach he’s played under throughout his career. He even explained how the two often fought on the bench and had disagreements.

“It hasn’t always been sunshine and rainbows between us,” he confided in French to TVA Sports. “We yelled at each other a couple of times, on the bench, during games, during the playoffs. But I think he wanted the best out of me and we managed to be able to work together.”

“He is a coach that I respect. We won together, so he will always have my respect.”

There is no doubt that Cassidy got the best out of Marchessault, who finished the postseason tied for first with 13 goals and ranked second with 25 points. He also scored 28 goals and 57 assists in the regular season. He finished the playoffs on a 10-game points streak.

I mean, you can fight with your coach, but if you shine like this on the ice, it’s probably because he is doing something right!
