A 'freak accident' appears to have seriously injured Connor Bedard.
The Chicago Blackhawks and perhaps Team Canada were hit by a potential catastrophe on Friday night when Blackhawks star forward Connor Bedard suffered an injury in a 'freak accident' at the final buzzer.
Bedard and the Blackhawks faced off against the St. Louis Blues on Friday night and, with only 0.8 seconds left on the game clock, found themselves needing a goal to tie the game with no time on the clock and offensive zone face-off. It would be Bedard himself who would go out to take that face-off in a vain attempt to try and get a goal, a decision that may go down as a complete disaster.
Bedard lined up for the face-off against Blues forward Brayden Schenn but as soon as the puck dropped it appeared as though something was wrong. Bedard collapsed to the ice and began clutching at his shoulder in pain, and things would continue to look bad from there.
Bedard appeared to be clutching the right side of his body in pain, and looked to be in agony as he raced back to the Blackhawks locker room after the final buzzer. Here is a look at the video replay:
We have received confirmation that Bedard is in fact injured with Blackhawks head coach Jeff Blashill confirmed that Bedard will miss tonight's game against the Detroit Red Wings due to the injury. Blashill also called the incident a 'freak accident' following the game, something that definitely appears to be the case.
You can hear Blashill's comments on the injury below:
Of course if this injury proves to be serious it could also jeopardize Bedard's chances of participating in the 2026 Winter Olympic Games, something that would be a huge loss for both the player and his home country of Canada.
