Connor Bedard reacts to the rumours involving his mother Melanie and Corey Perry!

Connor Bedard will be showing off his skills for the first time of his young career in Winnipeg over the weekend, and Jets’ media unfortunately welcomed him with some tough questions.
Winnipeg media met with the first overall pick and asked him about the scandal that involved former Chicago Blackhawks teammate Corey Perry and the rumours that spread about the rookie’s mother Melanie. Per Ben Pope of the Sun-Times:
“It’s just a bunch of BS on the internet. It’s of course been an affect on myself and my family, and that’s not fair. But it’s out of our control. It’s all just fake, made-up stuff.”
He then, rightfully so, became annoyed with the questions.
When Hawks general manager Kyle Davidson announced Perry’s termination earlier this week, he also made sure to state that that no other players or their families were involved, despite speculation to the contrary. Davidson added that anyone who suggests otherwise is “wildly inaccurate” and “frankly, disgusting.”
In his own released statement, Perry also denied the ridiculous allegations in his statement. Though he did not name his young teammate, the story was trending so much on social media lately that he did not need to.
“As a result of my actions, there has been speculation and rumours. I am sickened by the impact this has had on others, and I want to make it clear that in no way did this situation involve any of my teammates or their families. Most importantly, I want to directly apologize to those who have been negatively affected and I am sorry for the additional impact to others it has created. My behaviour was inappropriate and wrong.”
It is clear that the disturbing rumours had an impact on Bedard’s family. On Wednesday, Melanie Bedard deleted her Instagram account.
The amount of pressure of Bedard’s shoulders has been insane and there is no way it is fair for him to have to deal with this messy rumour involving his mother and former teammate Perry. While the talk didn’t hold much weight, the kid still had to answer questions about it on Friday. Like team insider Ben Pope points out:
I don’t think this was an appropriate time to do so. But I do think his response is worth posting.”
