Hellebuyck speaks for the first time since being traded!
For the first time since he was traded by the Winnipeg Jets to the New Jersey Devils, Connor Hellebuyck has spoken. On Saturday, Hellebuyck was introduced to the City of New Jersey as well as their fans and media when he held his introductory press conference.
Hellebuyck began by admitting that he was sick of sitting on his butt at home.
"Sitting at home for so long was getting to me," admitted Hellebuyck.
It sounds like he won't have to worry about that for very long though, with the veteran netminder stating that he believes he's ready to jump right into things.
"I feel I am," said Hellebuyck of being ready to play.
Hellebuyck stated what many expected him to say, that one of the big motivations behind his trade request was to win it all.
"I'm here to win and the only thing I got left on my resume is a Stanley Cup," said Hellebuyck.
Although there has been speculation that Hellebuyck's issues stemmed from playing in Canada, his comments about both the country and the City of Winnipeg did not reflect that sentiment at all.
"Canada loves their hockey and I felt that to the bone, I loved my time there," said Hellebuyck when asked about playing in Canada.
When it came to the specific topic of addressing the fans in Winnipeg, Hellebuyck expressed his appreciation for those fans but was somewhat cryptic stating that he would keep his comments short until after the Heritage Classic.
"There's a lot. There's a lot that I need to say, but they have the heritage game coming up so out of respect for them and the celebration of hockey I'll postpone that for a later date and I hope they know I care about them," said Hellebuyck before leaving the press conference.
