Connor McDavid calls out Canucks coach Tocchet’s late-game decisions!

That 8-1 season-opening debacle by the Edmonton Oilers at the hands of the Vancouver Canucks on Wednesday night remains hard to digest for captain Connor McDavid. On top of that, he’s struggling with Canucks’ head coach Rock Tocchet’s decisions in sending his top power-play unit in the third period despite holding a commanding lead.

In a post-game media scrum, McDavid complained about the decisions and called out Tocchet for it.

“They made a few decisions in the third period that I thought were interesting,” said McDavid. “Anytime they roll out the first power-play unit, it’s not ideal, not a situation we wanna be in, and obviously we don’t like that.”

McDavid also dared to complain about the fact that the Canucks pull starter Thatcher Demko with 10 minutes to go in the game in favour of backup Casey DeSmith.

Let’s hope he said this before findout out that Demko had the flu and had just thrown up in his own mask…

“Throwing the backup goalie in with 10 minutes left, I have not seen that,” added McDavid. “It’s not like DeSmith is an [emergency backup goalie] or anything like that, so I thought that was interesting.”

The thing is McDavid was frustrated with the game even before he met with reporters, getting guilty of undisciplined penalties late in the game that helped the Canucks run up the score.

McDavid said it himself this summer, it’s Cup or Bust, and so he better get focused and that is on the game and not the opposing coach’s decisions…
