Connor McDavid chirps the media after win in Game 2.
The captain of the Edmonton Oilers took a jab at the media after his team's big win.
Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid isn't exactly known as one of the National Hockey League's most extroverted personalities, quite the opposite in fact, but it has become clear throughout these Stanley Cup playoffs that the Oilers star forward is playing with a little bit more of a chip on his shoulder than usual.
The most likely factor motivating this sudden change in McDavid is unquestionably the 7 game series loss the Oilers suffered in the Stanley Cup Final at the hands of the Florida Panthers but there may also be other things at play here as well. It could very well be the case that McDavid hasn't liked the things being said about his team in the media, something he hinted at on Friday night after his team's win in Game 2.
McDavid began his post-game media availability with a jab at the media, mocking them for suggesting that the Oilers couldn't withstand the Dallas Stars offense after just 1 game in the Western Conference Final.
"Yes, we can play defense," said McDavid in a mocking tone, eliciting laughs from those around him.
It was a lot more personality than we are used to seeing from McDavid so while the comment itself was completely harmless, it did not go unnoticed by those in attendance.
McDavid certainly has been playing like a man on a mission, collecting 20 points in these playoffs already and becoming only the 4th player in National Hockey League history to do so in 4 consecutive Stanley Cup playoffs.
Despite his continued success over many years, McDavid stressed that things are different this time around for the Edmonton Oilers.
"We are a different team than we have been in years past," said McDavid. "Probably not as run and gun as we have been in years past."
The Oilers shut out the Dallas Stars in Game 2 of the Western Conference Final so it's hard to argue with McDavid's comments last night.
