Connor McDavid explains why he laid into his teammates in viral video!
The Oilers’ captain had to come clean:
A clip from the trailer for the Amazon’s new “FACEOFF: Inside the NHL” series leaked on Monday in which fans can see Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid laying into his teammates during the Stanley Cup Finals against the Florida Panthers this past June. The video was shot video after Game 2 of Edmonton’s loss to the Panthers. Edmonton eventually lost the first three contests of the series to tie things up for an ultimate show down in Game 7.
In the video below, McDavid can be seen yelling at his teammates in the Oilers’ dressing room: “That’s not good enough. It’s the Finals. Dig in, right now.”
When asked about the segment and it becoming a key part of the upcoming series, McDavid revealed why he agreed to let it be added to the show.
“You’re going to see us at our most vulnerable,” McDavid said, per Sportsnet’s Mark Spector . “You can’t say that we didn’t let (the cameras) in. They shot things in our most intense moments, most meaningful moments.
“You know, they shot it. They may as well use it.”
The six-part docuseries airs Oct. 4 and will show a lot of McDavid and his teammates in the most vulnerable states of their career.
“It was never my plan to be the star of the show,” McDavid said. “I think we wanted to dip our toe in but … here we are. Head first off the diving board.”
He added: “You’re going to see hockey players, but you’re going to see the human side of it. You’re going to see joy on one side, and you’re going to see a lot of heartbreak on one side as well.”
McDavid isn’t the only Oilers’ players that was shot in the series during Edmonton’s run. Fans will also get to see the raw emotions of Leon Draisaitl and Zach Hyman, while the camera will also get a closer look at the Panthers’ journey and star forward Matthew Tkachuk.
