Bromance in Edmonton.
Earlier this season, Evander Kane had a wide-open net but he passed the puck anyway to Connor McDavid in order to let his captain record the hat-trick on opening night. Kane voluntarily gave away the puck and collected just the assist on the play.
On Tuesday night, it was McDavid’s turn to return the favour and paid his back for his move earlier this season.
Kane put the Oilers up earlier in Tuesday’s game against the Nashville Predators, scoring two goals, but he had to wait until the end of the contest to get a chance to notch the hat trick.
Right before jumping on the ice with McDavid, who had also collected two goals in the game and had a chance at a hat trick as well, smiled at Kane and the latter knew he was getting paid back for his set up on opening night.
“Yeah, we kind of looked at each other at the bench and gave each other a smile before we went out there, so, I figured him and Leon were going to try and get it to me. It was nice to be on the receiving end that time,” Kane commented to Sportsnet's Gene Principe after the win.
We can understand how McDavid wanted to give up to Kane. After all, the captain is on pace for 90 goals at this point, as he has 11 in 10 games so far.
He probably figured he could let Kane have this one.
