McDavid had one clear message after Canada’s comeback win
Connor McDavid delivered on the ice, and off it, following Canada’s dramatic 3-2 semifinal comeback victory over Finland.
With Sidney Crosby unavailable for the game, McDavid wore the captain’s “C,” while Cale Makar and Nathan MacKinnon served as alternates. Under IIHF rules, each team must designate a captain for every game, prompting the temporary change.
After the win, McDavid made it clear exactly whose letter it really was.
“Just keeping the C warm for Sid.”
It was a fitting tribute on a historic night for the Edmonton Oilers superstar.
McDavid broke the Olympic points record in tournaments involving NHL players, surpassing Finnish greats Teemu Selänne and Saku Koivu in Canada’s win. He now sits at 12 points and has his sights firmly set on gold.
Even though Crosby didn’t dress, his presence was felt. Players said the veteran played a significant role behind the scenes, offering leadership and guidance in the locker room between periods as Canada pushed for the comeback.
Head coach Jon Cooper also offered an encouraging update regarding Crosby’s status.
“He’s got a lot better chance of playing in the gold medal game than he did today.”
Now, Canada waits, one win away from gold, with hopes their captain could return for the final chapter.
