The Edmonton Oilers appear to be getting back on track, recording a third win in their last four outings last night over the Detroit Red Wings, and captain Connor McDavid wants to focus on the positive heading into Toronto tomorrow night to face the Maple Leafs.

However, it sounds like he couldn’t help taking a shot at his own head coach Kris Knoblauch in the process.

When asked after the 4-1 win over Detroit about what’s been working and what to focus on moving forward, the superstar talked about the importance of having the same lines after “flip flopping like crazy”, hinting at the many changes Knoblauch made over the past weeks though the team’s stuggles.

Clearly, McDavid was not a fan, and highlighted the importance of consistency and building chemistry with line mates in his blunt answer.

Whether it was a subtle jab or just a candid assessment, McDavid made it clear that stability on the ice matters more than ever for the Oilers.

To shuffle more of his roster, the Oilers pulled off a significant trade earlier on Friday morning, sending starting goaltender Stuart Skinner, defenceman Brett Kulak and a 2029 second-round pick to the Pittsburgh Penguins in return for goaltender Tristan Jarry and forward Sam Poulin.

With the team finding its stride again, all eyes will be on how Knoblauch responds and if consistent lines can carry Edmonton to continued success, starting with tomorrow night’s matchup in Toronto.

But first new players will be welcomed to the dressing room, looking to build new chemistry.
