Tom Wilson shocked after Connor McDavid kicks him right in the family jewels.
The Edmonton Oilers secured a huge win over the Washington Capitals on Saturday night in what proved to be an incredibly exciting back and forth game, one that needed overtime to determine a winner.
There will no doubt be countless highlights coming out of this game, but one that has flown a little under the radar was a rather hilarious, and painful, interaction between Oilers captain Connor McDavid and Capitals enforcer Tom Wilson during the game's second period.
The Oilers were pushing late in the second and a scramble in front of the net resulted in McDavid finding himself directly in Wilson's crosshairs. As McDavid looked for a loose puck in front of the net Wilson delivered a stiff crosscheck to McDavid's back, a decision that Wilson himself would come to regret.
The crosscheck had the desired effect, sending McDavid lurching forward from the blow, but as McDavid lost his balance his leg would kick up behind him, striking Wilson directly in the family jewels with the boot of his skate. Wilson immediately doubled over in pain and the look on McDavid's face as he turned around revealed he understood exactly what had just happened to Wilson in that moment.
This was no minor low blow either, with Wilson seen on the bench doubled over in pain even several minutes after the initial blow.
